Media Advisory: Farm leaders to meet with Canada’s agriculture ministers at annual Industry-Government FPT Roundtable


July 14, 2017 – The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) will host its summer board meeting and annual Industry-Government Roundtable next week in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The event brings agricultural industry leaders together to discuss national priorities for the sector and includes a joint session with Canada’s federal, provincial and territorial agriculture ministers.

Agenda topics include:
  • Growing the industry based on recommendations from the federal Advisory Council on Economic Growth (the Barton Report) and targets set in the 2017 Federal Budget
  • Efforts toward developing a National Food Strategy, based on proposals put forward by CFA as part of the federal consultation now underway.
  • The next Agricultural Policy Framework (APF), a five-year federal-provincial agreement that establishes government agriculture programs. The next APF is a focal point of the federal and provincial agriculture ministers meeting, which is also set to take place next week.
  • Discussion on NAFTA re-negotiations
