OTTAWA - The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) welcomes the Red Tape Reduction Commission's Recommendations Report released on January 18.

"The CFA has supported this initiative since it was announced last year by Prime Minister Harper and we are pleased to see concrete results with the release of the Recommendations Report," stated Ron Bonnett, President of the CFA.

"Canadian farmers face a myriad of regulations each day and any effort to streamline or reduce redundancy will help farmers' bottom line," he added. "Of course, we are also pleased with the Commission's assurance that human health, food safety and animal welfare will not in any way be compromised by this initiative."

"Agriculture forms the foundation of rural Canada's economy and a reduction in red tape will certainly help farmers and in turn, rural Canada. We are hopeful this initiative, together with the recently announced agreement with the US to harmonize regulations pertaining to agriculture trade between the two countries, will improve the competitiveness of Canadian farmers," Bonnett remarked.

CFA and its members are looking forward to working with government and providing input as the recommendations of the Commission's report are rolled out.

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture is the country's largest farmers' organization, representing provincial general farm organizations as well as national and interprovincial commodity organizations from every province - over 200,000 Canadian farmers and farm families.
