May 8, 2009 -- While grocery shopping this weekend or celebrating Mother's Day, the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) would like to encourage Canadians to support Canadian producers and Canadian pork.

The Canadian Pork industry had been facing several challenges including the introduction of country-of-origin labeling (COOL) in the U.S. and the economic crisis. There is concern that misinformation regarding H1N1 influenza A could deal another blow to a struggling industry by leading to trade issues, thereby negatively affecting swine production.

"Canadians should be proud that their farmers produce one the safest food supplies in the world," said Laurent Pellerin, CFA president. "We encourage Canadians to show their support for farmers by eating pork as well as other Canadian products."
